The Russian president held a meeting with Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and Andrei Troshev, the ex-commander of the Wagner PMC with the call sign “Sedoy”. They discussed the formation of volunteer units, including for work in the special operation zone, follows from a transcript published on the Kremlin website.
The President turned to Troshev, clarifying that he planned to engage in the formation of volunteer units that could perform various combat missions, primarily in the zone of a special military operation. “You yourself fought in such a unit for more than a year. You know what it is, how it’s done, you know about the issues that need to be resolved in advance so that combat work can proceed in the best and most successful way,” Putin said.
He also assured Troshev that the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, which helps special operation veterans and their families, will provide social support to all participants in hostilities.
The day before, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Troshev now works in the Ministry of Defense.
