There are already 190 tons of drugs seized in Ecuador so far in 2021

This year a record of seizures was broken. Last year 120 tons of alkaloid were seized.

This year 190.5 tons of drugs have already been seized nationwide, a new record for the country, compared to the 120 tons seized in 2020. 70% of the seized drugs have been seized in Guayas, according to the National Anti-Narcotics Directorate.

Around a ton of drugs was found early this Wednesday in a house located in the Urdesa citadel, in the north of Guayaquil.

According to the Police, upon noticing the presence of the uniformed men, the driver of a vehicle performed evasive maneuvers at the control. Faced with that, the agents followed the car and reached the property where the driver intended to enter.

The car, according to the Police, had a hidden bay-type compartment with substances subject to control.

Meanwhile, firearms and several packages were found in the house. In addition, three people were apprehended there and taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The uniformed officers commented that these people were guarding the detected substance. Apparently the house was rented to store the drug, which is presumed to be taken through the port.

The Police revealed that in the national ports – eight in total – 50 tons of drugs have been seized in 84 cases during the current year.

Two months ago, only between two cases almost seven tons were seized in the Port of Guayaquil, this between Saturday and Sunday.

Antinarcotics also announced this week that more than 30 clandestine tracks have been detected since 2003 in the country, most of them in the provinces of ManabĂ, Santa Elena and Guayas. This after a clandestine track was detected in Balzar and four people were arrested and later released.

According to the uniformed officers, the illegal activities would have been committed on the slopes on weekends, between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

The alleged track is located in the La Trampa sector and is 1,500 meters long by 30 wide. Enabling it would have taken about three months.

According to information received by the UIAN agents, last weekend a plane with drugs was expected to land, for which an operation was carried out in which four men were arrested, including a former member of the National Police , all of whom were waiting in a truck, according to reports.

The province of ManabĂ is one of the territories where more clandestine leads related to drug trafficking have been detected this year.

For this reason, a radar was installed on the Montecristi hill to reinforce the control of these crimes. However, at the beginning of November the device was left without working, the product of an explosion registered eleven days after it was enabled for air traffic control in the area. (I)
