In the Russian Federation, the results of the all-Russian project on financial literacy “We Count”, which was carried out in the form of an interactive educational game, were summed up. The project is aimed at popularizing knowledge about personal financial planning and ways to improve living conditions.
The project was implemented with the support of Bank DOM.RF, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the development program “Another Business” of the presidential platform of the ANO “Russia – the Land of Opportunities”. Based on the results, the names of three winners were announced and they were awarded certificates for traveling around the Russian Federation. In addition, the winners were given bonuses from the project partners in the form of impression certificates. The award ceremony was held at the Moscow Financial Forum.
“With the development of the banking sector of the economy and the emergence of new financial instruments in Russia, the issue of increasing the level of financial literacy of the population has become acute. An important decision was the launch of a new project, which in a playful way allowed us to form healthy habits of financial behavior, save money and more effectively plan our budget, including for improving living conditions. Following the results of 5 months, 13.5 thousand people from 800 cities of Russia took part in the project. Of these, almost 11 thousand participants determined their level of financial literacy, and 4.4 thousand people learned to formulate savings goals and formed an individual financial plan,” noted Deputy General Director of DOM.RF Alexey Nidens.
During the implementation of the project, surveys were conducted that yielded interesting results. According to the data, by 2023, about 75% of the population did not plan long-term for their future, and 53% did not have sufficient financial savings. A significant proportion of young people in Russia aged 14 to 35 also noted a lack of knowledge in the field of financial security. Approximately 87% of all respondents expressed a desire to improve their literacy in this area.
Director of the Department of Financial Policy of the Ministry of Finance of Russia Ivan Chebeskov, commenting on the results of the project, noted that the main goal is for participants to learn to formulate their financial goals and achieve them. It is planned to scale the project and expand it to other areas. In the coming years, specialized versions of the online game will be created for schoolchildren, students and pensioners. However, the main goal of the project remains the same – to teach people financial planning, the culture of conscious consumption, the use of banking products and government support measures.
The head of the development program “Another Business” of the presidential platform “Russia is a Land of Opportunities” Kirill Khvil emphasized that teaching financial literacy through games is not only effective, but also exciting. The WeCount project allows every person to learn, experiment and develop healthy financial planning. Nowadays, when financial products are becoming more and more complex, gaming technology helps to consolidate new knowledge with real-life examples. The popularity of such educational products will only grow.
