There are several ways to overcome the temptation to snack late in the evening or at night. They were shared by nutritionist Doli Baliyan from a specialized hospital in Dehradun, India, writes Health Shots.
According to the specialist, nighttime food cravings can disrupt sleep and lead to extra pounds and discomfort the next day, which will negatively affect performance and mental well-being.
The nutritionist believes that it is possible to get rid of such a bad habit. According to her, there are a number of ways. First, you should add protein to your diet that provides long-lasting energy and keeps you feeling full – for example, you can cook lean poultry, fish, add nuts, seeds, legumes and yogurt for dinner. You also need to eat foods rich in fiber, which helps digestion and controls hunger. But it is better to give preference to vegetables, fruits and cereals that are high in fiber and low in sugar, the nutritionist advises. She also encourages reducing your intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates because they can cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels and trigger food cravings. In addition, the specialist encourages drinking enough water throughout the day, as well as a glass before bed, to curb hunger.
If overeating is emotional, then, according to the specialist, you need to learn to manage stress – practice meditation, yoga and light exercise.
