Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba: Kiev will not give up political ambitions to please Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced that Kiev is ready to make concessions to Russia only on the basis of reciprocity and on non-fundamental issues. He is confident that in the event of a hypothetical Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kiev’s Western partners will not hesitate to introduce “unprecedented sanctions” that are devastating to the Russian economy.

In addition, as the minister emphasized in an interview with the British television channel Sky News, the issue of launching the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which is the “economic weapon of the Russian Federation”, can become an instrument of restraining Russia. Kiev is ready to discuss the plans of the new leadership of Germany in relation to this project.

Earlier, the world media reported, citing informed sources, that Germany is ready to stop Nord Stream 2 in the event of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

The issues of fundamental importance for Ukraine, which the minister had in mind, are issues of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, including the possibility of Ukraine’s joining NATO. “Russia’s demands that Ukraine abandon its foreign policy, coordinate with Russia the process of our integration into NATO or abandon these plans are illegitimate,” added Dmitry Kuleba, who always stressed that this issue has the right “only to be decided by the people of Ukraine.”
