The court left Kolomoisky in pre-trial detention center

Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky will remain in jail. A court in Kyiv rejected an appeal against the entrepreneur’s arrest and left the preventive measure unchanged – detention and bail in the amount of 3.8 billion hryvnia, or more than 9 billion rubles.

Telegram channels of Ukrainian media report that Kolomoisky was brought to the Kiev Court of Appeal under escort and with his hands behind his back.

Let us remind you that Kolomoisky is accused of taking billions from Privatbank. As reported in the Telegram channel of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the entrepreneur allegedly embezzled UAH 9.2 billion from Privatbank, which he previously owned. Kolomoisky is also accused of organizing a criminal group of five people.

He is in jail on charges of illegally withdrawing $13.5 million.

The British newspaper The Financial Times previously wrote that “Kolomoisky, a tycoon in the banking, energy and media sectors, supported Vladimir Zelensky’s presidential campaign in 2019.” However, since then, Zelensky has distanced himself from the businessman, whose TV channels aired his popular comedy shows, the publication writes, noting that by doing so, the Zelensky administration is likely “trying to increase its anti-corruption authority against the backdrop of the SVO” and send signals to the West and the people of Ukraine.
