Deleted photos with Putin and Ovechkin: Elena Isinbaeva “cleans up” social networks

Photos with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and hockey player Alexander Ovechkin have disappeared from the social networks of Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva. The publication “Rise” was the first to draw attention to this.

In particular, a photo with Putin published in November 2017 with the caption: “I’m on the Putin Team” was deleted. A photo with Ovechkin, who in 2017 announced the creation of the Putin Team social movement as part of Vladimir Putin’s election campaign, also disappeared.

Also missing, according to Kommersant, were photos from a trip to Crimea in 2019, as well as a post congratulating Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on his birthday.

Let us remember that Isinbayeva found herself at the center of a scandal when it became known that she had left Russia and moved to Spain. The athlete herself stated that she is a “person of peace”, and the titles assigned to her “are nominal.” Thus, in 2015, Sergei Shoigu awarded Elena Isinbayeva the rank of major after concluding a five-year contract to serve in the Russian army. Against this background, the day before the athlete was checked for her involvement in the RF Armed Forces. Ultimately, Isinbayeva retained her position on the International Olympic Committee’s athletes’ commission.
