Hungary, Poland and Slovakia announced a “boycott” due to threats from Kyiv

Poland, Hungary and Slovakia decided to boycott the coordination platform with the European Commission on grain issues. The countries announced the termination of their participation, TASS reports.

The decision was made after the Ukrainian authorities announced their intention to file a claim with the WTO due to the extension of the grain import ban in Hungary, Poland and Slovenia, contrary to the decision of the European Commission.

“Poland, Hungary and Slovakia refuse to work within the framework of the platform due to caution and the fact that Ukraine could use information provided within the framework of the coordination platform against these three countries during proceedings at the WTO,” the message noted.

Let us recall that earlier Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka said that Ukraine was preparing a complaint to the WTO due to the grain embargo on Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. According to Kachka, “It is important for Ukraine to prove that these actions are legally unlawful.” He warned that if Warsaw does not lift the restrictions it has imposed, Kyiv will respond by introducing a ban on the import of Polish vegetables and fruits.

Let us remind you that on September 15, the EC did not extend the embargo on grain supplies from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Representatives of three Eastern European countries did not agree with this and limited the import of Ukrainian grain at the national level.
