Hurricane Lee puts tropical storm warning in Bahamas

He Hurricane Lee continues to advance this Wednesday towards the northwest of the Atlantic Ocean as a powerful category three hurricane, so a warning of tropical storm has been issued for Bermuda, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported. USA.

Over a wide radius, storm surge generated by Lee is affecting parts of the Lesser Antilles, the British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda.

In its most recent bulletin, the NHC, based in Miami, Florida, warned that tropical storm conditions are expected early Thursday morning for this British territory located in the North Atlantic.

Likewise, he adds, the risk of winds, coastal flooding and impacts of rain associated with this system continue to increase for sectors of New England and the Atlantic coast of Canada.

At 11:00 local time (15:00 GMT), the center of Lee was located about 430 miles (695 km) south-southwest of Bermuda, and 1,035 miles (1,665 km) south of Nantucket Island (Massachusetts, USA). .USA).

Lee is moving northwest with maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour (185 km).

On the forecast track, the center of Lee will pass west of Bermuda on Thursday and then approach the coast of New England or Atlantic Canada between Friday and Saturday.

Lee is currently a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, although slow weakening is forecast over the next few days.

However, the observatory warns that it is likely to remain a large and dangerous hurricane until next weekend.

Hurricane-force winds extend up to 115 miles (185 km) from the center, and tropical storm-force winds extend up to 240 miles (390 km) from Lee’s eye.

For its part, Hurricane Margot is still a category 2 in the open waters of the North Atlantic and it is likely that the waves generated by this system will begin to “affect” to the Azores islands.

At 11:00 local time (15:00 GMT), its center was located 795 miles (1,280 km) west-southwest of the Azores, with maximum winds of 90 m/h (150 km).

Margot is moving northwest near 7 mph (11 km), and a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected early Thursday. So, the NHC predicts, Margot is likely “stagnates or deviates within a weak zone” during the next weekend.

There are currently no coastal watches or advisories in effect for Margot and some weakening is forecast over the next three days.
