FT: NATO forces will work out a scenario in case of conflict with Russia

NATO countries are preparing next year to hold the largest military exercises since the Cold War. The Financial Times newspaper writes about this, and RIA Novosti provides excerpts.

It is noted that training is planned “with the participation of the joint command and more than 40 thousand military personnel to practice actions to repel an attack by the Russian Federation against one of the members of the alliance.”

According to media reports, the exercise, called Steadfast Defender, should start next spring in Germany, Poland and the Baltic countries. Also participating in the exercises will be Sweden, whose application to join the alliance has not yet received final Hungarian and Turkish approval.

The military will carry out from 500 to 700 air combat missions, more than 50 ships and about 41 thousand military personnel will take part, the newspaper notes.

The publication writes that NATO exercises should demonstrate “the readiness of the Armed Forces of the alliance countries for a potential military conflict with Russia.”

Officially, the leadership of the alliance has not yet confirmed the data on the exercises.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the West had crossed all lines in its anti-Russian policy, as well as constant threats against Russia.
