“The Americans will not have a blocking ticket”: Lavrov summed up the results of the G20 summit

The G20 summit held in India was a success. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a press conference following the summit, RIA Novosti reports.

“The summit is an unconditional success, for the Indian presidency, for all of us,” the minister noted.

He added that the G20 was undergoing internal reform, which was reflected in the “activation of G20 members from the Global South.” They sought to “strengthen its role in the mechanisms of global governance so that it adequately reflects its real weight in world affairs.” With the support of India, the countries persistently sought to take their interests into account, and as a result they were included in the declaration, Lavrov added.

He emphasized that the declaration formulated the tasks of reform and the IMF, and “the Americans will not have a blocking ticket, which is preserved artificially,” and the summit itself will give a positive impetus to efforts to reform both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the WTO, “which are so far artificially restrained by the Americans and their allies.” .

In addition, Lavrov commented on the discussions of the Ukrainian crisis at the summit. According to him, the West failed to “Ukrainize” the agenda of the event. “Largely thanks to such a consolidated position of the Global South in defense of its legitimate interests, it was possible to prevent the success of the West’s attempt to Ukrainize the entire agenda again to the detriment of discussing the urgent tasks of developing countries,” the minister noted. He added that “the Ukrainian paragraph is included” and is being discussed, but “it is not about Ukraine,” but in the context of the need to resolve all conflicts that exist in the world.

Let us remind you that the G20 meeting was held in New Delhi on September 9–10. At the summit, as the event participants noted, there were many disagreements on the Ukrainian topic, as well as on the topic of climate change and the transition to low-carbohydrate energy systems. On the crisis in Ukraine, G20 participants acknowledged the differences in assessments of the situation among members of the community, and also welcomed efforts to achieve “lasting peace” in Ukraine. In Kyiv, the wording presented in the declaration was criticized.
