Death toll from powerful earthquake in Morocco exceeds 800

In Morocco, the number of victims of the devastating earthquake that occurred late last night continues to rise. According to the latest data, 820 people were killed and another 672 were injured, reports the Medias24 portal with reference to the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Rescue services and local authorities are working in areas affected by tremors.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that there were no Russians among the victims of the earthquake in Morocco. She also expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

The authorities of Turkey, France and Great Britain have already announced their readiness to help Morocco with the liquidation of the consequences of the earthquake.

“We express our condolences to the friendly and brotherly Moroccan people and government, we wish God’s mercy to those killed and a speedy recovery to those injured. Turkey, as always, is ready to provide all possible support to heal the wounds,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on social media X that his country is “ready to provide first aid.” “We are all worried about the terrible earthquake in Morocco,” Macron wrote.

In turn, British Foreign Minister James Cleverley noted that his country is “ready to help Moroccan friends in any way possible.”
