When he was a child, and later a teenager, few predicted a career or success for him, although he inherited his talent and unique sense of humor from his parents. His father was a famous actor, Marian Friedmann, and his mother was the legendary prompter of the Warsaw Dramatic Theater, Halina. Due to their numerous professional responsibilities, he grew up under the supervision of his grandparents in Krakow. He had a lot of problems with his behavior, he was making trouble and he didn’t want to learn. However, my grandmother believed that he would become a priest. He was even an altar boy in the parish of St. Florian, where Karol Wojtyła was then the parish priest. After one of the masses, during which he was constantly disturbing, the priest took him by the ear and asked him, “Oh, Stef, what will become of you?”
As a teenager, he started studying at the 6th Secondary School. Tadeusz Reytan in Warsaw. It was then that he met his future wife, Krystyna Wiśniewska. He did not shy away from the company of his friends, which was often envied by his colleagues. One time they showed him a girl who they thought was the prettiest in school. They bet that he definitely wouldn’t be able to pick her up. He decided to prove them how wrong they were. Their first conversation, however, was far from a romantic pick-up. – So what about Wiśniewska? – . “Nothing, Friedmann,” she replied.
They have been married for over five decades. They claim they are not a good fit
They stood on September 7, 1968. However, the young couple did not have an easy start. First they lived with their parents, then they rented small studio apartments. To improve his financial situation, Friedmann went to the United States, where he took up various jobs. He worked as a worker, among others. polishing floors or being a gardener. Only when he strengthened his position in the industry did he start earning decent money as an artist. Five years after the wedding, their first-born son, Filip, was born, and later the family expanded with another child, Wojciech.
Today, Stefan and Krystyna have been married for almost 55 years. Many claim that such a long experience proves that they are perfectly matched. However, the actor has a different opinion on this matter. – We have different senses of humor. Everyone says, “You guys are so good.” We are very mismatched, but we love each other terribly and understand our mismatch. Due to all this, he is constantly shaking and moving. We try. You never know what will happen tomorrow – honestly in one of the interviews. The Friedmanns live in the small village of Łoś near Warsaw, and they devote their free time to their four grandchildren: Max, Szymon, Aleks and Karol. Their children are now adults and settled down. The older one is a businessman and has even managed to find himself on the list of the richest young Poles. The younger one finds fulfillment as an artist. He travels around the world, photographs and writes.
