Russians were advised to close cameras in ATMs: scammers are not asleep

Fraudsters have come up with a new way to gain access to the personal data of Russians. This was reported by Gazeta.ru with reference to the head of the department of “Intelligent Information Security Systems” at the Institute of Cybersecurity and Digital Technologies of RTU MIREA Shamil Magomedov.

According to the expert, criminals install their own duplicate cameras on ATMs, which people mistake for bank security cameras. In this way, fraudsters can find out some confidential data, including the card PIN code. Signs of such deception may include traces of glue, as well as a wobbly case. However, such devices usually do not last long – employees conducting collections inspect the devices daily for outside interference and damage.

However, if a person has doubts, it is worth looking for another ATM. You can also cover the camera or PIN input device with your hand. At the same time, the specialist notes, if the legal camera was closed, it will be more difficult for the client to prove his case if the ATM malfunctions. In order to protect yourself as much as possible, Magomedov advises using ATMs at bank branches.
