The beginning of autumn is a popular time for relaxation: the heat has subsided, the weather is comfortable, and the prices for tours are no longer as high as in summer. However, scammers can ruin any holiday. The most common ways to deceive tourists are reported by Izvestia with reference to the managing partner of Rusyaev and Partners, lawyer Ilya Rusyaeva.
According to him, one of the popular methods of fraud was the offer of “exclusive” excursions, for which the tourist is asked for a lot of money. In fact, excursions are poorly organized and completely ordinary.
Another scheme is the requirement of “city taxes” and “resort fees”, which are not related to real ones and can differ several times from their size.
Another way to cheat is to offer “unique” souvenirs and “cheap” tastings of local drinks or products. In these cases, contrary to promises, tourists risk paying a large sum for a fake.
The lawyer recommends avoiding such “tempting” offers, requiring certificates and licenses from service providers, and checking reviews of their activities on independent platforms and forums. It would also not be superfluous to first familiarize yourself with the market for these services on the Internet, compare prices and inquire about the reputation of the seller. It is also important to carefully study the domain name of the site on which the service is purchased – often scammers choose a name that practically does not differ from the name of a bona fide and popular resource.
