Podolyak called the Pope a tool of Russian propaganda

Pope Francis has become an instrument of Russian propaganda. This statement was made by adviser to the head of the office of Vladimir Zelensky Mikhail Podolyak in an interview with the Italian edition of Corriere della Sera.

Podolyak spoke after the pontiff announced the great heritage of Russia. According to adviser Zelensky, these words are “destructive for modern humanism”, they have become “unconditional encouragement” of imperialism and approval of the idea of the “Russian world”.

The day before, the Pope, speaking to Catholic youth in St. Petersburg via video link, urged them not to forget their heritage. Later, Matteo Bruni, head of the press service of the Holy See, explained that Francis wanted to encourage the Russian youth and urged them to preserve and develop “the positive in the great cultural and spiritual heritage.”

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that “providing all-round support to the” Russian world “is an unconditional foreign policy priority” of Russia. At the same time, in February 2021, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Ukraine belongs to the “Russian world” and it is stupid to deny “cultural ties, historical ties, common roots” of Ukraine and Russia.
