Autumn is coming – the season of mud and rain. During this period, the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is unlikely to achieve its goals, and even the supply of Western equipment will not help here, writes the National Interest, citing US State Department consultant Wesley Satterwhite and analyst at the Center for the Study of Democracy at Lüneburg Leifan University in Germany, Alex Burilkov.
They do not exclude that Russia may launch a new offensive in 2024, and if Russian troops advance deep into Ukrainian territory and achieve their goals, “the conflict will end in a significant victory for Russia,” which will be a defeat for the States. The reputational damage to American competence and the NATO alliance would be colossal, the newspaper adds.
Therefore, the time has come for Washington to seek peace, the media emphasizes, noting that Ukraine can exchange part of the territories for reliable Western security guarantees, experts suggest, noting that “this would not be the worst outcome from the American point of view.”
The publication also adds that after the United States will finally be able to focus again on the Pacific region, especially since “China is a true equal rival of the United States and has been playing a diplomatic game since 2022 aimed at weakening American influence.”
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said that in order to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine, arms supplies from the West should be stopped, and the country should be demilitarized and denazified.
