Products such as sugar, fruits, milk, honey and sweets, buns and other pastries, juices are sources of simple carbohydrates, which are considered to be detrimental to the body. However, in some cases, they can be beneficial, said gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh, writes Life.

She explained that “the molecular structure of these carbohydrates is simple, so the body quickly and easily processes them, as a result, blood sugar levels rise sharply, and then just as sharply decrease.” Such fluctuations cause a person to feel very hungry, and if they happen often, there is a risk of developing insulin resistance, leading to type 2 diabetes.

However, it is a mistake to think that simple carbohydrates are extremely harmful, the doctor added. She noted that as part of healthy foods, such as vegetables, fruits, milk, they will benefit the body. Moreover, simple carbohydrates help the body with severe stress and exhaustion. However, they should be combined with fiber, healthy fats and proteins to avoid blood sugar spikes, the doctor explained.
