The Velikoluksky diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate began an official check after the incident with the consecration of a monument to Joseph Stalin in the Pskov region. This became known from messages on the website of the diocese.
Everything happened in Velikiye Luki on August 15, when the monument to Joseph Stalin was unveiled. During the ceremony, one of the priests of the diocese consecrated the monument.
Commenting on the incident, the diocese said that they did not coordinate the participation of priests in the opening ceremony of the monument, and their actions “reflect their personal views.” “At the moment, an official check is being carried out,” the press service said in a statement.
The deputy head of the patriarchate, Bishop Savva (Tutunov) of Zelenograd, called the consecration of the monument to Stalin in Velikiye Luki an outrageous act on the part of the priest.
Recall that last spring, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting of the working group of the Military-Industrial Commission read Stalin’s telegram dated September 17, 1941.
