The explosion occurred in the sea near the resort of Costinesti in southeastern Romania, Agerpres and Radio Romania International reported on social networks.
According to the agency, the incident occurred around 9:00 local time on August 14. According to the radio, the explosion occurred near the pier near the Hotel Forum. After that, military divers, who specialize in clearing mines, began to survey the water area.
The area was cordoned off by specialists from the Romanian Navy and the police, as it was assumed that a mine had exploded on the beach, writes Stirile Pro TV. However, at the time of preparation of this material, according to the portal, this information is not confirmed in the Romanian Navy.
Divers continue to search the sea for elements of a projectile or other explosive device. Also, experts suggest that another mine may be found in the area.
The search for the latter began after one of the tourists said he saw an object drifting in the direction of the city of Mangalia in the same district, writes Stirile Pro TV. However, later the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations reported that the object floating in the sea turned out to be a piece of wood.
There were no injuries or deaths in the explosion, reports Agerpres with reference to the Inspectorate for Emergency Management of Constanta County (ISU).
