It is better for women to sleep without panties. So says gynecologist Elizaveta Komarova, she is quoted by MedikForum.
According to the expert, this only seems unsanitary at first glance, but in fact it can benefit health. Komarova explained that if you do not release the intimate area into the air, an ideal environment is created for the reproduction of microbes, because they love a warm, humid climate. Wearing underwear at night, women only help germs.
Considering that most women still wear underwear during the day and also wear tight trousers, this means that air cannot enter the intimate area at all.
According to the doctor, women who often have problems with fungal infections or abscesses are especially advised not to wear underwear at night, as fresh air makes it harder for fungi to multiply and reduces the chance of infection. If there is no way without underwear, Komarova recommends wearing only cotton underwear, as it is more breathable than synthetic fabrics. She called boxer shorts or wide pajama pants ideal.
The doctor noted that, in general, it is useful from time to time to release the legs, armpits and intimate areas “into the air” – so the sweat on the skin and in the folds of the skin dries better.
