Chicken eggs can be harmful to health. The yolk contains cholesterol, the excess of which in the body accelerates the development of atherosclerosis – the formation of plaques on the vessels, gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh warned, writes Gazeta.Ru.

According to the doctor, the formation of plaques on the vessels increases the risk of a heart attack or stroke. She emphasized that there would be no harm from 1-2 eggs a day. However, egg white can also be the cause of allergies – in this case, chicken eggs in the diet will have to be abandoned. The doctor also noted that scrambled eggs should not be fried in vegetable oils with a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including flaxseed, soybean, rapeseed and olive oil – when heated, such oil becomes toxic to the body. The specialist urged to stop eating raw eggs because of the high risk of salmonella infection.

At the same time, the doctor spoke about the benefits of eggs. So, they contain a complete set of amino acids that are indispensable for the body. Eggs are involved in the construction of tissues, immune defense, and have a positive effect on metabolism. They also have lecithin, which favorably affects the metabolism of fats, the state of the liver. Eggs are also a source of vitamin D.
