The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Lithuanian Border Service will send additional forces to the border with Belarus, said Rustam Lyubaev, commander of the Lithuanian State Border Protection Service.

“Together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we are now considering the possibility of increasing our capabilities on the border with Belarus, that is, the allocation of additional employees,” Lyubaev emphasized, adding that “appropriate decisions have been made.”

“Currently, the situation on the state border with Belarus and the Russian Federation remains steadily tense. The likelihood of provocations is high, given that Wagner mercenaries are currently deployed in Belarus, but at the moment we do not observe any special provocations or additional activity on the border with Belarus and the Russian Federation, ”said the head of the Lithuanian border service.

He added that the military exercises taking place near the Lithuanian borders, in which Wagner fighters also participate, “are not of a large scale and do not pose a significant threat today,” Interfax reports.

“The measures that are now being taken on our border with Belarus are adequate to the situation. There are deployment plans, we can deploy additional forces in a very short time to respond to the situation on the border, ”Lyubaev emphasized. He specified that “in the event of an aggravation of the situation on the state border, it is possible to activate a cover plan, according to which the Lithuanian army, Lithuanian police and other structures will come to the aid of the border guards.”
