European companies have begun using storage facilities in Ukraine for their gas reserves, Reuters reports, citing three traders and company representatives.
According to the interlocutors of the agency, this is done in order to use the storage capacities available in the country, which are also cheaper. It is noted that after the reduction in supplies from Russia, European countries are trying to fill storage facilities to the maximum in anticipation of winter. In addition, companies are trying to buy more gas, fearing a 1.5-fold increase in prices in the first quarter of 2024.
In addition, Miroslav Gashko, one of the leaders of the Czech energy company EPH Group, said that the transportation of gas to Ukraine and the use of storage facilities in this country is a “sign of trust” to Kyiv. “They have shown themselves well even in the current very difficult situation,” Gashko said.
The Slovak SPP also noted that they are exploring the possibility of using Ukrainian storage facilities, since their own complexes are already 90% full.
Ukrtransgaz stated that they have a positive attitude towards the interest of foreign traders in their complexes. They noted that the EU countries can use storage facilities with a total volume of about 10 billion cubic meters. m, mainly located in the west of the country, away from the combat zone.
