Cases were reported in less than 24 hours in two sectors of that town in the north of the province.
In less than 24 hours, two citizens have been found dead in sectors of the Flavio Alfaro canton, in the north of Manabí.
The first case was registered at the El Cuello site, in the Río de Oro sector. There, Francisco Teófanes Esmeraldas Rodríguez, 60, was found lying on the floor with a shot in the body, around 6:00 p.m. Thursday 2.
According to the account of relatives who spoke with police agents, Francisco Esmeraldas allegedly took a chimney shotgun that he had in the house and then allegedly shot himself to end his life. That version is still being investigated by the Police.
His family members told police officers that they heard a shotgun blast and immediately came down from the house, when they had the biggest shock of their lives when they saw their bloodied relative with the shotgun at their side.
Agents from the National Directorate of Crimes against Life, Violent Deaths, Disappearances and Extortion (Dinased) arrived at the scene to remove the body and, with prior authorization from the prosecutor on duty, transferred it to the Manta forensic center.
Family members reported that Francisco Esmeraldas was the father of three children in a first engagement and was currently in a new romantic relationship. According to those close to him, Esmeraldas never showed any kind of emotional problem.
The second case was reported on the morning of this Friday the 3rd, around 11:00. Luis Pérez Bravo, 33, was found inside a farm located in the Pozones sector of that same canton.
A brother of the victim told the police that he had moved to that area, since Pérez had gone out to that farm on Thursday afternoon and since then he has not returned home or answered his cell phone.
Upon arriving at the farm, the relative said that through a small window they saw that Pérez’s body was on the ground, so the door had to be knocked down to enter the site. There, they found that the subject no longer had vital signs and had a bottle of insecticide nearby.
A family doctor who arrived at the site stated that the deceased had been poisoned the night before.
The police who went to the scene carried out the removal of the body. His family members avoided transferring him to the Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Relatives indicated that Pérez had been seen at a mass that was held last December 1 in memory of his father, for having completed one year of death, and that he was not noticed to have problems.
Luis Pérez was a merchant, he had a grocery business and was the father of three minors. (I)
