The State Duma immediately adopted in the second and third readings an amendment to increase the draft age in Russia to 30 years.
According to the draft, from January 1, 2024, Russians from 18 to 30 years old will be subject to conscription. At the same time, citizens who turn 27 by the end of 2023 become liable for military service and are not subject to conscription in 2024, the State Duma Committee on Defense specified.
Recall, earlier it was reported that the State Duma was amended, according to which the draft age in Russia will be extended to the borders of 18-30 years, while it was decided to abandon the phased increase in the age “taking into account the military-political situation.”
Initially, the bill provided for a transitional period until 2026. It followed from the document that the draft age in 2024 will be from 19 to 30 years, in 2025 – from 20 to 30 years, from January 1, 2026 – from 21 to 30 years. However, on July 21 it became known that it was decided not to raise the lower limit of the draft age to 21 years. On July 24, it was announced that it is still planned to raise the upper limit of the draft age in stages for a year from 2024, so that by 2026 it will reach 30 years. However, now the amendments provide for the rejection of the phased increase in age.
