“Oppenheimer”. The viewers saw a mistake. “Such a mistake is unacceptable”

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” debuted on the silver screens last weekend. Although the production showing the fate of the father of the atomic bomb is shocking, it did not distract the most attentive viewers enough to miss the mistake made in one of the last scenes.

is considered one of the greatest contemporary directors. In his artistic output, he has accumulated several absolute film masterpieces, including “The Dark Knight” or . Now the honorable group has also been joined by , which appeared on the cinema screens on July 21, 2023.

J. Robert Oppenheimer stars in Nolan’s new film. The production grossed over $174 million in total

“Oppenheimer” is a biographical war drama about the fate of an American scientist, Julius Robert Oppenheimer (played by ), who went down in history as the inventor of the atomic bomb. Few expected that the production, lasting over 3 hours, filled with figures from the world of politics and science, would be such a spectacular success, both in terms of attendance and box office.

The second, however, could be expected, because Nolan has been considered one of the most profitable filmmakers for years. Based on its opening weekend, the film became the third highest grosser of his career, grossing as much as $80.5 million in the US and $93.7 million in other markets.

A mistake was made in the production of “Oppenheimer”. Viewers point out the blunder of the creators

Despite the multitude of complicated threads and dynamic plot twists, some viewers did not miss a certain, seemingly small, in one of the final scenes. One of the Internet users published an entry on Twitter, drawing attention to the oversight of the creators. We are talking about a situation in which American citizens cheer in honor of the title character, while waving US flags. It turns out that there are 50 stars on them, symbolizing the states, but fidelity to historical facts dictates that there should be 48 of them. Why? The reason is simple. When the events shown in the film took place, it was 1945, then Hawaii and Alaska did not belong to the USA.

Most viewers, however, consider this an unimportant detail that will probably be corrected before the digital release of “Oppenheimer”. Although in the remaining scenes the flags of the United States were shown in accordance with the political situation of the time, those more sensitive to mistakes consider it reprehensible, arguing that a seemingly minor slip-up “ruins a great picture” and, what is worse, “puts the artist in a bad light”. Despite this, only a few critical opinions appeared on the web in this regard.

Such a mistake in a supposedly ‘historical’ film is unacceptable. I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on such a humorous production

This means that the film is not historically accurate and is pure fiction

Historical films should be true to the facts from beginning to end. The criticism is fully deserved.
