Improper nutrition leads to a decrease in potency. Roman Ivanov, a dermatovenereologist at the Gemotest laboratory, warned about this, writes Life.
He explained that burgers, french fries and similar high-calorie foods contribute most of all to “male impotence”, because they contain a lot of simple carbohydrates, trans fats, salt, flavor enhancers and preservatives, which threatens with obesity and high cholesterol levels, leads to atherosclerosis and other problems with the cardiovascular system. And this causes erectile dysfunction.
Also, fatty foods reduce the production of testosterone, the male hormone responsible for libido and sexual activity, the expert noted. Referring to a number of studies, the doctor added that just one hamburger reduces the level of this hormone by 25% and the next four hours, testosterone is synthesized more slowly. If you eat fast food regularly, the level of this hormone will be constantly lowered, the doctor warned.
Still, according to him, alcohol negatively affects men’s health: just 120 grams of ethanol or five cans of beer reduce testosterone by 23%. Potency is also affected by the sugar contained in confectionery, soda, packaged juices and pastries, which causes a sharp jump in insulin. Over time, this can lead to insulin resistance, which increases the risk of developing diabetes, which is considered another cause of erectile dysfunction.
In addition, potency is negatively affected by coffee and energy drinks, the doctor added.
