The alarm at the Vremena Goda shopping center, where a pipe with hot water burst, did not work during the emergency. According to RIA Novosti with reference to an employee of the center, the staff and visitors were not immediately evacuated from the building.
According to her, the escalators were working on the second and third floors, but they were not working on the first floor, and people were quietly watching what was happening. “There was no alarm, there was no sound, there was no publicity,” the employee explained, adding that everyone was calm until about ten minutes had passed after the emergency.
The employee found out about what had happened through her sister, who sent the news, after which the woman went to see what had happened.
Firefighters, ambulances, police and emergency services are currently on the scene.
Recall that the state of emergency claimed the lives of four people, rescuers continue to work, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin. The press secretary of the Moscow prosecutor’s office, Lyudmila Nefedova, specified that all the dead were women.
Upon the death of people in the shopping center, a criminal case was initiated under the article on the provision of unsafe services that caused death.
As it became known, the Moscow prosecutor’s office organized an audit of compliance with the requirements of federal law in connection with the incident in a shopping center in the west of Moscow.
