South Korea has warned that North Korea will face “the end of the regime” if it uses nuclear weapons.
“In the event of any North Korean nuclear attack against the South Korean-American alliance, the DPRK will face an immediate, overwhelming and decisive response from the alliance, and we strongly warn once again that the attack will lead to the end of the North Korean regime,” South Korea’s defense ministry said in a statement.
The military department noted that Pyongyang’s nuclear program and missile provocations are clear violations of UN Security Council resolutions and “illegal activities.”
“North Korea will never win any concessions from the South Korean-American alliance because of its nuclear developments and threats, and we urge it to recognize that its isolation and deprivation will only deepen and quickly embark on the path of denuclearization,” the Defense Department said.
Earlier, North Korean Defense Minister Kang Sun Nam warned the United States and its allies against “reckless attempts to use nuclear weapons” on the Korean Peninsula and assured that Pyongyang would protect its national interests.
