Kyrgyzstan has strengthened export controls, including those for military and dual-use goods, the Ministry of Economic Commerce of the republic reported.
“After the visit of representatives of the US, the EU and the UK to the Kyrgyz Republic in March-April 2023, the Ministry initiated a number of measures to prevent their illicit trafficking in order to organize work to strengthen export controls, including for military and dual-use goods,” the report says.
They also noted that they had applied to the EU Delegation and the US Embassy in the republic with a proposal to hold consultations on improving export control. In particular, the Kyrgyz side proposed to Brussels that the authorized bodies in the EU countries request end-use certificates when exporting dual-use goods. “In particular, this is necessary so that the Kyrgyz side, through this certificate, monitors economic entities importing dual-use goods,” the Ministry of Economic Commerce explained.
US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu visited Kyrgyzstan in April, and EU Special Representative for Sanctions David O’Sullivan visited Kyrgyzstan in March to prevent circumvention of EU sanctions against Russia.
