The Russian-Ukrainian conflict “represents the most serious challenge to the open international order in a generation.” This is stated in the report of the Ministry of Defense of the country, published on the website of the department.
“Europe has not seen a conflict of this magnitude since the end of World War II,” the document says. It is emphasized that London is learning from what is happening in Ukraine and is modernizing its army and weapons. Thus, British specialists have developed “readily available solutions” to strengthen the armor protection of the Challenger 2 tanks “against special Russian threats.” In addition, it was decided to replace Vanguard-class submarines with Dreadnought-class submarines, including upgrading nuclear warheads. The first such submarine is expected to enter service in the early 2030s.
It is noted that the British army received an additional 3 billion pounds for the nuclear deterrent for the next two years and another 6 billion pounds for the next three years.
In terms of army development, Russia is called “the biggest threat to European security” in the report.
Earlier, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute reported that in 2022, against the background of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, nuclear powers increased the number of deployed nuclear warheads. Thus, in January 2023, out of 12,512 warheads, approximately 9,576 were in storage for potential use, which is 86 more than in January 2022.
