Two brothers drowned in the Quevedo river

Kerly A., the children’s stepmother, told police that the two children dived into the river to cool off and suddenly disappeared.

Quevedo, Los Ríos

Two brothers drowned in the Quevedo river, in the province of Los Ríos, on the afternoon of Tuesday 30.

The bodies of the minors were rescued from the tributary around 3:30 p.m. that day.

Kerly A., the children’s stepmother, told police that the two children dived into the river to cool off and suddenly disappeared.

The children, according to the woman’s testimony, jumped at around 2:30 p.m. to the tributary that passes at the level of 38th Street of the Viva Alfaro de Quevedo parish.

Two citizens who were alerted by the cries of the woman initially supported the rescue of the bodies of the children identified as Alejandro, 7 years old, and Sebastián, 8. Despite the efforts they were given with first aid, the children did not react.

Local Fire Brigade personnel culminated in the recovery of the brothers’ bodies to take them to the morgue.

César Gilces, father of the minors, stated that so far he does not know the circumstances in which the events were recorded.

“My current partner has not told me how things happened, I have doubts and at the same time suspicions because my children did not know how to swim and according to her, she did not rescue them because she did not know how to swim either. I found out about the tragedy when I was at work. The children’s biological mother has drug use problems and that is why I was in charge of my three children. I don’t know the mother’s whereabouts, ”said the man.

The parent also related that among his suspicions is that perhaps one of the children was drowning and the brother in an attempt to help him also lost his life, since they used to always be together.

The minors together with their father, grandmother and older sister lived in the El Desquite sector of the Viva Alfaro parish, the place where the wake is held. (I)
