The curtailment of the “grain deal” means that the maritime humanitarian corridor stops working, and the regime of the area temporarily dangerous for navigation is restored in the north-west of the Black Sea. This was stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The ministry also stressed that in the context of “outright sabotage” of the clauses of the Istanbul agreements, the grain deal “loses its meaning.” The Russian side objects to a further extension of the deal and has notified Turkey, Ukraine and the UN Secretariat about this. In addition, the Russian Federation withdrew guarantees for the safety of navigation in the northwestern Black Sea.
The maritime humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea is being curtailed, the regime of a temporarily dangerous area is being restored, and the SKC in Istanbul is being disbanded.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Russia would be ready to consider restoring the deal only upon receipt of concrete results in fulfilling its obligations to the Russian side. In the meantime, according to the statement, none of the five systemic tasks envisaged by the Russia-UN Memorandum has been fulfilled.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the agreements on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports “virtually ceased to be valid today.” He stressed that the deal had not stopped, but “stopped”, and reiterated that Russia would return to it as soon as Moscow’s demands were met.
