Ukraine will not give up its claims to the territories it considers its own in exchange for the prospect of its entry into NATO. This statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference in Vilnius, answering the question whether some Western countries could prepare a scenario in which “the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO could be used for negotiations with Russia.”
“We will not give up our territories and will never exchange them for any frozen conflict. Our partners clearly know my position,” Zelensky is quoted by TASS.
Earlier, Politico wrote that Ukraine believes that the issue of its membership in NATO can be used during peace negotiations with Russia. The newspaper claimed there were fears among Ukrainian leaders that Germany and other countries allegedly want to use Ukraine’s potential NATO membership as a bargaining chip in future peace talks with Russia.
At the same time, according to Zelensky, support for Kyiv from Western partners will not decrease, the corresponding guarantees have been received from the leaders of NATO countries. He added that Western assistance largely depends on the situation on the battlefield.
At the same time, he pointed out, the decision on the supply of ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles to Kyiv has not yet been made.
