NATO countries probably do not want Ukraine included in the alliance. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the post was published on Telegram.

He noted that the allies are probably not ready to invite Ukraine to NATO or make it a member of the alliance. A situation in which there are no specific deadlines for either one or the other, Zelensky called absurd and unprecedented. He stressed that “some strange wording about ‘conditions’ is being added even for inviting Ukraine” to the bloc.

According to Zelensky, “uncertainty is weakness.” He promised to raise the issue at the summit.

Recall that on July 11, the NATO summit started in Vilnius. The day before, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the participating countries had almost completed work on a joint communiqué of NATO countries on Ukraine. According to him, “the wording of the summit communiqué will be positive, there will be a strong signal on Ukraine and the way forward to membership in the alliance.” He added that the countries of the bloc would support the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO.

Earlier, the Secretary General announced that at the summit, the members of the alliance will make a decision that will bring NATO closer to Ukraine, and this is not only about a multi-year package of assistance to Kiev, but also about deepening political cooperation between the parties through such long-term support to Ukraine. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that NATO members agreed to accept the country into the alliance without one of the mandatory procedures for joining the bloc, namely, the implementation of the membership action plan – this is a list of activities that consists of several sections: political and economic issues, questions defense, law, resources and security.
