The work on the joint communiqué of NATO countries on Ukraine is nearing completion. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the eve of the summit opening on July 11 in Vilnius.

He noted that the application would be ready in a few hours. According to him, “the wording of the summit communiqué will be positive, there will be a strong signal on Ukraine and the way forward to membership in the alliance.”

According to him, the countries of the bloc will support the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO.

Stoltenberg added that, in particular, he proposed to cancel the “Membership Action Plan” for Ukraine in the alliance. According to him, this will allow it to shorten the process of joining NATO.

Earlier, the Secretary General announced that at the summit, the members of the alliance will make a decision that will bring NATO closer to Ukraine, and this is not only about a multi-year package of assistance to Kiev, but also about deepening political cooperation between the parties through such long-term support to Ukraine.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that NATO members agreed to accept the country into the alliance without one of the mandatory procedures for joining the bloc, namely, the implementation of the membership action plan – this is a list of activities that consists of several sections: political and economic issues, questions defense, law, resources and security.
