According to the results of June of this year, Russia ranked first in terms of supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Spain, follows from the data of the Spanish energy company Enagas, published in El Periodico de la Energia.
Thus, in June, Spain imported 7,673 gigawatt hours (GWh) of LNG from Russia, which accounted for more than a quarter of total purchases (26.8%). In total, in the first half of 2023, Barcelona purchased LNG from Moscow for 41,145 GWh. This is a fifth of all natural gas supplies (20.1%), Russia ranked third in the period from January to June, writes RBC.
The second place in terms of shipments from Spain over the past six months of this year, according to Enagas data, is occupied by the United States, and in the first place in the first half of 2023 is Algeria.
In mid-June, the head of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanne, said that European countries agreed to continue buying LNG from Russia, despite pressure from the United States. According to him, over the past year, the EU imported 15 million tons of LNG from Russia – this is a sixth of the commonwealth’s total needs of 100 million tons.
Pouyanne noted that before he refuses to import gas from Russia, he needs to find a replacement. According to him, a replacement will be found in the United States.
