The issue of participation of Russians in the Asian Games in China was not discussed, the Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation did not receive relevant proposals. ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

He pointed out that the statement of the OCA representative on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Asian Games “reminds me of the March recommendations of the IOC”, as a result of which many practical decisions were not made even after a few months. So far, he added, the Russian Olympic Committee has not received any invitations to participate in the Asian Games, and without this it makes no sense to consider and discuss any hypothetical options.

According to Pozdnyakov, over the past few months there has been a lot of speculation about the admission of Russians and Belarusians to certain international tournaments.

“Given the lack of necessary specifics, we treat today’s statement accordingly,” he concluded.

Earlier, we recall, the media reported that approximately 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to participate in the Asian Games 2023, but in a neutral status and outside the medal count. It was noted that they will take part in the games, which will be held from September 23 to October 8.
