The Federal Intelligence Service (BND) of Germany listened in on the telephone conversations of the founder of the Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin and the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the day of the attempted rebellion by the Wagnerites. It is reported by RBC with reference to the German media holding ARD.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Prigozhin’s actions came as a surprise to Berlin, despite the fact that the German intelligence services “always tried to monitor the situation in Russia.” Although, according to ARD, about a week before the incident, German foreign intelligence officers had “vague suspicions” that Prigozhin would attempt a rebellion.
Journalists claim that intelligence learned about the mediating role of the Belarusian president directly through wiretapping.
Earlier, Lukashenka’s press service reported that negotiations with Prigozhin went on all day on June 24, they were conducted in agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As a result, an agreement was reached to stop the columns of PMC fighters and return them to the rear camps.
