The Georgian Foreign Ministry does not plan to hold consultations with the republic’s ambassador to Ukraine Georgiy Zakarashvili, who was ordered to leave Kyiv because of the health situation of ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. Ilya Darchiashvili, Foreign Minister of the republic, stated this in an interview with the Imedi TV company.

He added that the diplomat had already left the territory of Ukraine and was heading to Georgia.

According to Darchiashvili, if Kyiv is interested in Saakashvili’s fortune, they should not send the Georgian ambassador for consultations, but complete the initiated procedures. “They turned to us about the appointment of a new ambassador, we immediately gave them consent,” he added, noting that the Ukrainian side must make a decision, the Ukrainian ambassador must come to this country.

He clarified that the procedures for appointing a new ambassador of Ukraine began in 2022. The minister added that any Ukrainian diplomat who works in Georgia has the right to visit Saakashvili, who is serving his sentence, as a citizen of Ukraine.
