The Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov signed a law on the introduction of a resort tax in the city from October 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, the Smolny press service reports.
According to the document, initially the rate will be zero, and from April 1, 2024 it will increase to 100 rubles per person per night in hotels. According to Vice-Governor Alexei Korabelnikov, the transition period is needed “to organize preparatory activities for both authorities and businesses,” Fontanka writes.
The city administration said that there would be no fee for the first day of arrival. In addition, more than 20 privileged categories of citizens will be exempted from payment – those who constantly work and have housing in St. Petersburg, large families, participants in the Great Patriotic War, war veterans and others.
The bill on the resort fee was approved by the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg on June 28. Initially, the authorities planned to introduce it from August 1, but at the request of the business, the deadline was postponed.
