The Ukrainian military asked for help from Western partners in the fight against Russian drones. This is reported by The Telegraph with reference to the adviser to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense Yuriy Sak.

According to him, the Russian Lancet drones have become a particular problem for the Ukrainian troops, the Armed Forces of Ukraine require Western weapons to be able to defend themselves against them. “In order to understand why they are of concern to us, anything that can damage our equipment or pose a danger to our troops is of concern to us,” said Sak, calling the Lancet good equipment.

It is difficult for the Ukrainian army to protect Western tanks and artillery installations from a maneuverable and relatively cheap drone, which is capable of incapacitating much more complex and expensive enemy equipment, the newspaper writes.

According to media reports, Kiev is asking Ukraine’s Western partners to hand over additional Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (SPAs), which the Ukrainian military believes are best suited to the task of destroying drones. Other expected assistance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine may be the means of creating interference, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The media, citing experts, also writes that the Lancet is inexpensive to manufacture, it flies low and at a slow speed, which makes it difficult for radar systems to detect conventional air defense systems, while there is no easy way to defend against their strikes on the battlefield. In addition, the cost of missiles to strike drones far exceeds the cost of the drones themselves.

Earlier, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko called the Lancet the most dangerous for the Ukrainian army.
