A hockey player from Russia has been detained in Poland on charges of espionage. This was announced by the Polish Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Zbigniew Zebro on his page on the social network.

According to Zebro, the secret services arrested a Russian hockey player from the “first league club” and this, the minister noted, “already the 14th detained member of the discovered spy network”, which allegedly “carried out intelligence, propaganda activities against Poland and prepared acts of sabotage on behalf of Russian intelligence ”, RBC quotes.

The prosecutor’s office clarified that the Russian had been in Poland since October 2021 – a year and eight months, writes Rzeczpospolita. He faces up to ten years in prison. The court decided on his arrest for three months.

According to the Mash Telegram channel, 20-year-old Maxim Sergeev was detained in Poland. He represents the Zaglebie club, which plays in the Polish Hockey League. In Russia, the defender played for HC Balashikha and Spartak.

The Russian embassy in Poland said that they had not yet received information from Polish law enforcement agencies about the detention of a Russian citizen.
