French police have detained 667 people during the riots in connection with the death of a teenager. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior of the country Gerald Darmanin in the social network.
The unrest in the country has been going on for three days of unrest – since the night of June 28th. According to Interfax, the most violent clashes between law enforcement officers and rioters took place on the night of June 29 in Paris and its suburb of Nanterre. Protests against the actions of the police were noted in different regions of France. 40 thousand policemen and gendarmes are involved, including 5 thousand in Paris.
The reason for the protests was the murder of a 17-year-old teenager by a policeman. According to prosecutors, in Nanterre, in the eastern suburbs of Paris, two police officers on motorcycles noticed a car moving at high speed along a dedicated bus lane. They tried to check him at a red traffic light, but the driver of the car refused to obey the order of the traffic police to stop the car and slipped through the red light. The race continued down several streets and endangered the lives of pedestrians. To stop the motorist, one of the police officers used a weapon. The 38-year-old police officer who shot the teenager was questioned and detained.
