The press release of the Ecuadorian Telecommunications Authority is necessary in order to stop speculations about the renewal of the contracts of operators Claro and Movistar.

You cannot treat the topic lightly and create nervousness among users. Considering the wave of comments on the decision of the Regulatory Agency for Telecommunications (Arcotel), which suspends negotiating tables for the renewal of contracts with telephone companies for 120 days, the most rational is the official version of the effects.

There is concern because the contract with Clara expires in August, and with Movistar in November. Analyst Alberto Acosta assured this newspaper that there is no possibility to switch and the communication or signal ends as warned on social networks. However, for the sake of public peace, clarification from the Government is urgently needed.

The executive branch and the phone companies have every right to negotiate the terms of the renewal, but in the middle of it you can’t even think of affecting the communication service.

The negotiations lasted almost two years and it is up to the regime to give explanations to the users, since the termination of the contract is close, speed is expected, except that the Government’s period was shortened due to the effect of the cross death signed on May 17.

Acosta’s analyst is right in warning that this type of inconvenience with contract negotiation also affects the possibility of future investments. It is difficult for an investor to bet on a country where there is no certainty that it will maintain its business.

Not only mobile communication is involved here, technology as a whole and family economy have made mobile phones a means of reaching customers and services. Against this background, clarity and transparency are urgently needed. Silence in this situation hurts. (OR)
