Detentions were held in the government of Karachay-Cherkessia. As specified in the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the case of embezzlement of funds allocated for the development of healthcare, the deputy prime minister and six other people were detained.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the damage is estimated at more than 100 million rubles.

During the search, large sums of money were seized at their places of residence, the press services of the ministry and the FSB reported. They noted that the money was allocated under the state program for the development of healthcare, including for the purchase of medicines, medical equipment, as well as the payment of salaries to medical workers.

As the representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk clarified, instead of the alleged medicines and medical equipment, the suspects bought shoes. After a search, dozens of expensive shoes were found among the defendants in the case.

The ministry does not reveal the identity of the detained deputy chairman of the government of the KChR, however, RIA Novosti writes that it is about Irina Gerbekova, who took the post of deputy chairman of the government of the KChR in 2021.

A criminal case against her was opened three months ago, Kommersant notes. The investigation believes that persons associated with her withdrew millions of rubles from the hospital’s budget through fictitious contracts and imaginary transactions. It is specified that the group includes employees and heads of the Republican Clinical Hospital, as well as individual entrepreneurs. They face up to two years in prison.
