Authorities want to ban foreign ventilators in public hospitals

The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to ban the purchase of foreign state institutions of artificial lung ventilation (IVL), Vedomosti writes with reference to a draft government decree published on the portal of draft regulations.

According to the document, it is proposed to add the item “respiratory resuscitation apparatus” to the list of foreign goods prohibited for purchases for state and municipal needs.

The department told the newspaper that such a measure would support Russian manufacturers of such devices, since they are ready to “cover the needs of the healthcare system in full.”

Among the Russian manufacturers of ventilators, the Ministry of Industry and Trade listed the companies KRET (part of the Rostec Corporation, Triton Electronics (both of them provide 35% of supplies), Radian, Khirana +, Medprom.

In May 2020, in the St. Petersburg hospital named after George, a fire broke out due to a short circuit in the Aventa-M ventilator, which is manufactured by KRET. The fire killed six people.
