The United States has nothing to do with the attempted rebellion in Russia, said US President Joe Biden.
“We made it clear that we were not involved [в события в России в пятницу и субботу]. We had nothing to do with it. It was part of the struggle of the internal Russian system,” Biden said during a speech at the White House.
At the same time, he stressed that Washington, regardless of further developments in Russia, will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine. Biden noted that he brought this to the attention of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a telephone conversation between them over the weekend.
Biden also added that the United States “were ready for several scenarios,” and announced his intention hold new telephone consultations with other Western leaders on the situation in the Russian Federation.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the events of recent days in the Russian Federation around the Wagner PMC are an internal Russian affair.
Recall that on Saturday the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don was captured by the PMC Wagner. This happened against the backdrop of statements by Yevgeny Prigozhin about allegedly inflicted by the Russian Armed Forces missile and bomb attacks on PMC camps – this, however, was denied by both the Ministry of Defense and the FSB. As a result, a criminal case was opened against Prigozhin for organizing an armed rebellion. In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the actions of the “Wagnerites” a criminal adventure.
Later, the press service of the President of Belarus reported that Alexander Lukashenko held talks with Prigozhin and he accepted his proposal to stop the Wagner movement in Russia and take further steps to de-escalate. As Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated after that, Prigozhin would leave for Belarus, and the criminal case would be dropped.
