A resident of Yakutsk in a state of intoxication stole a car with two sleeping children. A criminal case has been initiated, the prosecutor’s office of the republic reports.
According to the traffic police, the incident occurred late on Wednesday evening. The man stole a Toyota Corolla car, in which there were two children 4 and 5 years old. The mother of the children went to the store with her friend without locking or turning off the car.
The hijacker was detained in hot pursuit, he stated that he did not remember the circumstances of the incident, and did not notice the children. The fact that there were sleeping children in the back seat was reported to him by an unfamiliar citizen, whom he picked up near the Yakutsk bus station.
During the arrest, an administrative case was opened against the hijacker for “driving a vehicle by a person who is in a state of intoxication and does not have the right to drive.” Now a criminal case has been initiated under the article on theft, investigative measures are being taken.
The children were not injured and were handed over to their mother. Information about the incident was also received by the Inspectorate for Juvenile Affairs to consider the issue of holding parents accountable for improper performance of their upbringing duties.
